“ISSUES, ISSUES, ISSUES”

Is your child becoming more withdrawn, sad, nervous, getting bullied or teased, becoming defiant, talking back, getting aggressive, not focusing, not doing chores or homework, and generally acting out? Are you as a parent frustrated, unsure of what to do, at your wits end? All of these factors are going to impact you and your child and the dynamic at home.

Are you an artistic and creative person struggling with day to day issues, with finding a balance between making a living and staying true to your artistic endeavors? Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, confusion about where you are at this point in your life and where to go from here?

Are you suffering mild to more moderate symptoms of mental illness? Having difficulties at home, at work, with friends, family and relationships? Perhaps Covid has had long lingering affects on your mental health leading to more anxiety, depression and grief/loss.

I work with children and teens ages 7-17 and adults of all ages including young, middle and older adults suffering from a variety of mental health and day to day life issues. Some of the issues I may see with kids include ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Autism, Anxiety and Depression, and other mood and disruptive disorders. I work closely with parents on parenting skills, establishing clear limits, consequences & rewards, and how to communicate better with their child. I’ve worked in the “trenches” in a number of settings, such as Residential Treatment Centers for teens on probation with drug abuse problems, in the public schools as a school counselor, and in outpatient mental health.

With young to middle-aged adults, we may work on transitioning into the workforce, marital conflict, job stressors, reaching personal goals, changing careers, and other young to mid-life issues.

With older-aged clients, we may focus on issues such as transitioning from the workforce to retirement, managing grief and loss, losing their loved ones to sickness or death, and other late life stressors.

I do not work with couples for couples counseling. Only individual and/or family therapy.

My approach is primarily psychodynamic, but I also utilize cognitive based interventions and behavioral modification skills as needed. I work with patients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and problems on a more internal and psychological level. I believe this approach of going deeper has a longer lasting impact while still clearing up the more overt symptom behaviors. I do consult with teachers, school psychologists and counselors if a child is having difficulties in school and with regard to special education accommodations such as SST’s, 504 plans, and IEP’s.

Being Jewish, I work with local Jewish organizations such as Jewish Family Service. I have experience working with the Orthodox Jewish community.

My sense of humor and relaxed, informal manner helps patients feel safe and comfortable. I often use my creativity and interests in photography, film, music, and writing in my work. Please feel free to contact me for a phone consultation.
